2013 Vacation Bible School (times three)

Back in the day, when VBS time rolled around, I think my mom would drive around town and plot out which VBS we would go to each week. I remember helping her in the childcare part of the VBS in Tulare, and Sarah dressed like a farmer. I remember helping my mom with crafts at St. Mary's as they tried pioneering VBS at the Catholic church. This summer, I was able to not only volunteer at multiple VBSs like back in the day, but also was able to volunteer by my mom's side. Hip hip for my mom.

Crafts from VBS at Christ the Lord Lutheran (my parents' church). Their theme was western. I think the horse sock puppets were my favorite. The kids seemed to love the "shrink-a-dink" crosses a lot too. I didn't dare take pictures of the styrofoam ball and spaghetti (or toothpicks) cactus plants. I hope to forget those. Forever.

I had a week off before starting "Kingdom Rock" VBS at my church, MUMC. Mom and I helped my friend Debbie piece together decorations. It wasn't looking too promising, but Debbie had a vision, and when all was said and done, the church was transformed into a castle.

On the way to my night-time VBS post: CRAFTS. I believe this was my 5th year in the night-time craft crew. Last year at this time, I was in Boston with my new fiance, so this year, I had a lot of filling in to do.
A little "Games of Thrones"-ish if you ask me. Barathians?

A little blurry, but this is "Ye Ole Missons Drop Off." Each day the kids participated in local missions (food drive, school supply drive, socks and shoe drive, pet supply drive for the SPCA, and fund drive for Indian VBS). It is great that MUMC teaches children the importance of giving back.

This year, I also had the privilege of working with the Extreme VBS group during the day. These are the rising 5th and 6th graders who are a little too old for regular VBS, but aren't quiet old enough to volunteer. We hiked Stone Mountain, went to the pool, had a day at the park and spent the final day in service at the church. Great group of kids that I'll hopefully be working with more in the future.

And on the last night there was randomness. I walked by a classroom and saw Optimus Prime Colors. How awesome is that?! Not as awesome as the random hippo wrapping paper. Made me so happy.
